Video Games We Have Enjoyed

These are some of the games our family has enjoyed playing. Some of these were originally published on older generation consoles/PCs, but have been released on newer hardware too.

When I recorded it, I've included ratings from the family.

Outer Wilds #

Open world puzzle game we thoroughly enjoyed. Lucy has played through multiple times. One of our absolute favorites.

Outer Wilds: Echoes of the Eye #

Sequel to Outer Wilds. Not as strong as the original, but not much is. Still fun, but with a bit more tedium.

What Remains of Edith Finch #

Haters call it a walking simulator. I disagree. It's a well told, poignant story that I'm not likely to forget. Yes, we played it in one sitting on a snow day and made caramel corn to celebrate.

The Witness #

So many well done puzzles (over 650). Not much story. Amazing videos. You'll know what I mean when you find them. We still look for booms on hikes.

Lego City #

We played this on the Wii U, and it had the longest loading time of any game of that generation, but we loved it. Open world adventure game with light puzzles.

World of Goo #

We played this on the Wii. Perfect interface for the Wii. Great physics-based puzzles.

Portal #

Great music. Great (snarky) dialog. Great puzzles.

Portal 2 #

Sequel is just as good as the original.

Gorogoa #

Short game. Clever puzzles. Beautiful hand drawn art. Unique style.

Professor Layton #

Puzzles and mysteries galore geared towards kids. We played so many of these, even though we played exclusively on the Nintendo DS.

Ori and the Will of the Wisps #

Beautiful action game. Very well done.

Kentucky Route Zero: TV Edition #

Cool idea and concepts, but never quite jelled for me. I feel asleep a lot too which didn't help.

Baba Is You #

Unique puzzler. So. many. puzzles. Tedious in the end, but we enjoyed playing this one for quite awhile. The puzzles felt procedurally generated, and at times I wanted to write a program to solve the puzzles more than I wanted to play it.

Hades #

Very well done hack and slash. Adventure, die, learn a smidge more story, repeat. Works surprisingly well.

Florence #

Very short, like less than an hour. A cool story.

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild #

Open world. Wonderful game.

The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom #

Sequel is great. The Minecraftification of Zelda was fun, but didn't feel completely necessary.

The Stanley Parable: Ultra Deluxe #

Strange. Almost an un-game. Clever and maybe most enjoyed by grizzled game players.

The Talos Principle #

Classic puzzle game. We enjoyed quite a bit until cousin Josh got too scared.
